Farm Insurance Throughout Ohio
A farm is not just a home with a business on it. Barns, equipment, livestock, farm vehicles and the liability that comes with all of it need a much deeper review than a standard homeowners policy. As an AFIS-designated (Agribusiness & Farm Insurance Specialist) agent, David takes the time to understand your operation so the little things aren’t missed.
What Farm Insurance Can Cover
Farm Home & Belongings
Your house and personal property, written to fit a rural property rather than a subdivision lot.
Barns & Outbuildings
Barns, pole buildings, machine sheds, silos, grain bins, fences and corrals.
Farm Equipment & Machinery
Tractors, combines, implements and tools, whether they’re in the shed or out in the field.
Livestock
Cattle, horses, goats, sheep and other livestock, with options for losses like fire, theft and collision.
Feed, Grain & Supplies
Stored hay, grain, feed, seed and chemicals.
Farm Liability
Protection if someone is hurt on your property or your livestock or operations cause damage to others.
Hobby Farms, Family Farms & Working Operations
Coverage should match how you actually use your land. A couple of horses and a big garden are very different from a cattle operation, a horse boarding barn or a farm that sells at market. We’ll help you understand where a homeowners policy stops and a farm policy needs to start.
- Hobby and small farms: acreage, a few animals, a barn and some equipment
- Family farms: crops or livestock as part of household income
- Working operations: larger acreage, hired help, custom farming or direct sales
- Add-ons to discuss: farm umbrella, farm and commercial auto, equipment breakdown, agritourism, and custom farming liability

Does homeowners insurance cover a hobby farm?
Often only partially. Many homeowners policies limit or exclude farm buildings, livestock, farm equipment and income-producing activities. If you keep animals, store hay or equipment, or sell anything you raise, a farm policy or the right endorsements may be needed. We’ll review how you use your property and recommend the right fit.
What is the AFIS designation?
AFIS stands for Agribusiness & Farm Insurance Specialist. It is a professional designation for agents who complete specialized training in insuring farms, ranches and agribusinesses, and it requires annual continuing education to stay active. View David’s verified AFIS credential.
Is my livestock covered if it gets out and causes an accident?
Farm liability coverage can respond when your livestock causes injury or property damage to others, such as an animal on the road. Limits and terms vary, so we review this with every farm client.
Do I need to insure my farm equipment separately?
Farm equipment and machinery are usually scheduled or covered on a blanket basis within a farm policy. A homeowners policy typically offers little or no coverage for farm machinery.
What about my farm truck or trailers?
Farm trucks, trailers and vehicles used in the operation may need a farm or commercial auto policy rather than a personal auto policy. We’ll make sure your vehicles are written correctly.
Do you insure farms outside Mahoning County?
Yes. We insure farms throughout Ohio, as well as in Pennsylvania, Indiana and West Virginia, where we are also licensed.
