Working with my agency

What is an independent insurance agent?

An independent agent represents several insurance companies instead of just one. That means my agency can compare coverage and price from multiple companies for you, recommend the best fit, and keep shopping for you down the road if your needs or rates change.

Does it cost extra to use an independent agent?

No. There is no separate fee to work with my agency. Agents are paid by the insurance company, and that is already part of the price, whether you buy through an agent or not.

Who will I be working with?

You work with me, David Moliterno, and my team at our office at 211 S. Main St. in Poland, Ohio. Call or text 234-254-5660 and you will reach a local person, not a call center.

Which states do you cover?

My agency is licensed in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and West Virginia.

Can I stop by the office?

Yes. The office is open Monday through Friday, 9 to 5. Calling ahead is a good idea so we can make sure someone is available to meet with you, or you can book a time that works for you.

Quotes and switching

How does getting a quote work?

Request a call back or call or text 234-254-5660. I will gather a few details, shop the companies that fit your needs, and walk you through the options, usually within 1 to 2 business days. There is no pressure and no obligation.

What should I have ready?

Your current declarations pages (the summary page of each policy) are the most helpful. For auto, the drivers’ names and dates of birth and your vehicles. For a home, the year built and any updates to the roof, electrical, plumbing or heating. Your renewal date helps too.

Will getting a quote affect my credit score?

Many insurance companies use an insurance score as one rating factor. In general, these are treated as soft inquiries and do not affect your credit score.

When is the best time to shop my insurance?

About 30 to 45 days before your renewal date is ideal. It gives time to compare options without rushing, and some companies offer a discount for setting up a policy in advance.

How do I switch companies?

We will take care of the setup for you and help you cancel your old policy so there is no gap in coverage. Please do not cancel your current policy until your new one is confirmed in place.

What if my current company is still the best option?

Then I will tell you. Sometimes the best advice is to stay put, and I would rather earn your trust than make a switch that does not help you.

Coverage basics

Is bundling home and auto always cheaper?

Often, but not always. I compare bundled and separate options so you can see the difference and choose what makes the most sense.

How do I choose a deductible?

A higher deductible usually lowers your premium, but it is the amount you pay out of pocket on a claim. Many people pick an amount they could comfortably cover from savings. We can look at the price difference together.

What does “full coverage” mean?

“Full coverage” is not an actual type of insurance. It usually means liability plus comprehensive and collision on your vehicle. Limits and deductibles vary a lot, so it is worth looking at what yours actually includes.

Why does your agency recommend higher liability limits?

State minimum limits can be used up quickly in a serious accident, and anything above your limits can come back to you. Here is why my agency generally recommends 250/500 limits.

Does homeowners insurance cover flooding?

Standard homeowners policies generally do not cover flood. Flood insurance is a separate policy. Water backup from a sewer or sump pump is also usually an add-on, so it is worth asking about.

What is an umbrella policy?

An umbrella adds extra liability protection on top of your home and auto policies, often $1 million or more, and is usually more affordable than people expect. Learn more about umbrella coverage.

Do you insure farms and hobby farms?

Yes. I hold the AFIS (Agricultural Farm Insurance Specialist) designation and work with farms of all sizes, from hobby farms to working operations. Learn more about farm coverage.

Claims and service

What should I do after an accident or loss?

Make sure everyone is safe, take photos if you can, and then call my agency or your insurance company’s claim line. We will help you through the claim process.

Should I call you or the insurance company first?

Either is fine. If you call my agency first, we can help you understand what to expect and get the claim started. Many insurance companies also have claim lines available 24/7.

Will filing a claim raise my rate?

It can, depending on the type of claim, who was at fault and the company. If you are unsure whether to file, call me first and we can talk it through.

How do I get ID cards or make a change to my policy?

Call or text 234-254-5660, or use the Client Center to view your policies, print ID cards and request changes anytime.

How often should I review my coverage?

At least once a year, and any time something changes, such as a new car, a new driver, a home project or a new business. My agency checks in before your renewal each year.
